TATIC conducted an in-depth analysis of how International Investment Agreements (IIAs) affected labour rights and human rights in Tanzania. These agreements, while designed to encourage foreign investment and economic growth, often had far-reaching implications on the protection of workers, communities, and fundamental freedoms.
The study went beyond examining the direct impacts of IIAs. It also compared Tanzania’s labour and human rights legal frameworks with global and regional standards to assess how well national laws safeguarded the dignity and rights of workers. By identifying gaps and strengths within these frameworks, the research highlighted opportunities for reform to ensure investment policies aligned with international best practices and human rights commitments.
Through this work, TATIC provided evidence-based insights to guide policymakers, civil society, and international partners in creating an investment environment that not only attracted investors but also protected the rights of Tanzanian people.
